Mission Updates Networking

#DVMISSION24 launches at City Eye Film Network – Tuesday, 9 January 2024

#DVMISSION24 launches at City Eye Film Network a monthly event for anyone working in or interested in Film! Mission coordinator Roy Hanney will introduce the 19th edition of the challenge and we’re buzzing with excitement. There will be plenty of activities as the DVMISSION crew like to provide you with creative challenges that will get you prepped for this year’s competition. Plus, there will be an opportunity to get your hands on a team registration discount code.

Mark your calendars because from 5pm on the 1st to 5pm on the 3rd of March, it’s going to be a whirlwind of creativity, passion, and pure cinematic magic. With an especially exciting gala screening and awards night at The Wedgewood Rooms on Saturday 9th March. For #DVMISSION23 we celebrated our 18th birthday by inviting challengers to dive into our immersive storyworld “Things to Come” at The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth.

You can get a glimpse of what went on by watching the highlights video below.

For those new to the idea DVMISSION is a 48-hour film challenge based on the south coast of the UK that has for the last 18 years been challenging filmmakers to get creative and join a local community of media makers. Having just staged our 18th edition we can stake a claim to being the longest, continuously running 48-hour film challenge in the UK. How does it work – we give challengers a line of dialogue, a title and a genre and they make a 2-minute film in 48 hours. We then get our judges to award the coveted Pompey Oscars for 16 categories of prizes. In 2023 the obstructions were:

  • Title: The [insert your tile here] Chronicles
  • Genre: Space Opera
  • Line of Dialogue: “don’t lean on me man because you can’t afford the ticket”
  • Added obstruction for previous award winners: include an alien or robot
  • Special prize: for any film that passes the Bechdel test

You can watch all the winning films from 2023 in this YouTube playlist:
