Competitions Mission Updates

Are you ready to cross the start line of the 16th DVMISSION 48 Hour Film Challenge?

It’s only six days now and we will be live for the 16th DVMISSION 48 Hour Film Challenge!

It’s going to be an unusual one and one that brings with it a whole number of additional obstacles. But we know that challenge teams like the extra challenge cause that’s where the creativity all comes from. There have been some tricky obstructions over the years, Steampunk being one I thought might be a bridge to far, but every year you turn it around and create some amazing films. So, we are pretty confident you will do the same this year. What will be interesting will be to see the innovations that I am sure you are going to come up with.

Other than the added obstruction of social distanced filmmaking the actual challenge weekend is not going to be that different from usual. On Friday (26th Feb) you will get the obstructions via our social media so make sure you are following (and interacting if you want to beat the algorithm) with whichever channel you prefer. There will be a line of dialogue, a title and a genre, plus an extra obstruction for last year’s winners (and yes, we will be checking). Then on Sunday by 5pm, exactly 48 hours later, you need to have uploaded and submitted your final film (2 mins duration).

What will be different is that rather than have the awards night at The Wedgewood Rooms it is all going be online. I have no idea how that will work as it’s our first time delivering a virtual event of this kind. We do have a bit of a plan and a great team behind it. So, fingers crossed!

On the Saturday 6th March at 7pm we will premiere all of the films via our YouTube channel. We will set this up on the Sunday night the challenge closes so please keep an eye on your email for those Filmfreeway download requests (otherwise we can’t include your film in the screener). As soon as the upload is complete, and the premier set well will push out a link through our social media.

Then at 8.30pm the same evening we will go live on Zoom for a special online immersive experience that our creative team (Matt and crew at UoP Performing Arts) are devising. The Zoom link will also be posted via social media once we have it!

The show will be interactive, and we hope you will get involved. That will then Segway into the awards which will be announced live. I already have all the hand-crafted statues from Lawn of the Dead and I am excited to be able to share them with you all as they look amazing.

Do take the time to create an appropriate Zoom background, dress up and get into the spirit of things. There is a prize for “Best Fancy Dress” and we will be scanning your feeds for the winner.

As per usual there will be a prize for “Best Social Media” so please #DVMISSION21 so we can follow your BTS, action shots, promo clips and vlogs. We really enjoy getting to see behind the camera and are looking forward to following you all through this year’s challenge.

Finally, we will be doping the Audience Raved About it award slightly differently this year and will either set up a voting form you can use on the night or wait until all the films are properly uploaded and do the vote then. A decision is forthcoming 

That is all for now.

On your marks, get set….
